Overview of the Training Programme.
Before we look at how the tutorial is designed I thought you might like to know something about me. I am a teacher of Secondary Mathematics with over thirty years experience in Queensland Australia. I have worked with Mathematically interested and able students for all my teaching career and have successfully prepared students for local, national and international Mathematics competitions. I have also conducted weekly sessions for the Mathematically interested and able in my town. This training programme is the result of these experiences.
Essentially the tutorial is made up of six SETs of problems ranging from SET F (Years 6/7) through to SET A (Years 11/12). Each of the six SETs introduces 10 different types of problems often found in Mathematics Competitions. To be able to successfully answer these questions you need to have a certain amount of Mathematical knowledge, a few Problem Solving strategies, and sometimes a degree of flair and ingenuity.
Don't be anxious if you think that you may be missing some of these because I will supply the tools you need along the way in the form of HINTS, background THEORY, and suggested STRATEGIES.
The free DEMONSTRATION has a SET of 5 Training and 5 Bonus questions which introduce the types of strategies you should use in the Tutorial. Following this, SET F provides problems at the first level of challenge (at years 6/7). SET E provides problems at the next level of challenge (at years 7/8) and so on to SET A (at years 11/12). The skills and knowledge you gain in SET F are very helpful in solving the problems in SET E etc. You can imagine that your progress is something like the spiral ramp opposite. Each SET revisits a similar type of problem but at a higher level of challenge. You can start on whichever SET suits your mathematical level.
